The Story of My Life!

(for those who might be interested)
    by Richard Ashton

It occurred to me, reading a great friend's life story a few years ago, that things from the past often interest other people, particularly younger folk who often want to know what things were like in the "olden days"!

Not that I am really "that old"...

So I have started to put pen to paper, fingers to a keyboard - one that might need replacing soon, because its keys have started to stick and you sometimes get rows of "e's" instead of just one!! A real pain to check and edit. Maybe I shall get another second-hand keyboard tomorrow, or the next day, or...

    Missing evidence (so to speak)

I have very little in the way of photos of my family, or indeed where we lived. While this is a pity, it's not an absolute disaster! Mother always exagerated, and used to say she had had more than thirty moves in her life. Actually, that probably was not an exageration.

Father and mother were a professional military couple, it was his first marriage and her second. They actually met on a ship as she was going out to central Africa to marry her first husband!

They accidentally met up again years later, after her first marriage ended up in divorce - something that wasn't talked about very much back in the 1920s-1930s, and one pretended it didn't happen.

I hope to cover a little of my father's story in a companion on-line "book", but there again, I have almost nothing to call upon in the way of photos and reminiscences.

This page is basically a "get-to-know-you" section, like a Preface or Introduction to a real printed book.

If you wish to continue reading, please take the link to the opening "chapter".
